CMC Firm HEJUN Held Annual Convention – “Pursuing Dreams in the Year of the Horse”

HEJUN consulting group, the largest consulting company in China and the world's first CMC firm, held its annual convention in Beijing on 11th and 12th February, 2014.   The theme of the event was “Pursuing Dreams with Hejun in the Year of the Horse”.  This event was one of the three mandatory annual learning gatherings.  Senior staff turned out in almost full force in a packed auditorium for the event, with many staff participating through live webcast.  

Mr Liu Jiheng, the CEO, delivered the 2013 annual work report and 2014 work direction.  Mr Wang Mingfu, the Chairman of the Board, detailed the trends and directions of HEJUN.  Various other speakers shared views on the strategic issues confronting China, the consulting industry, and HEJUN.

Reviewing 2013 and Looking Forward 2014 and Beyond

Mr Liu Jiheng narrated the Top 10 high-lights of HEJUN in 2013, notably HEJUN’s accreditation as the first CMC by ICMCI.   Despite the dual pressure of slowing economic growth and industrial downturn in 2013, HEJUN achieved an impressive 27% increase in business income. All of its major business sections, comprising management consulting, equity investment and business school, achieved more than 25% growth, maintaining HEJUN’s top position in China’s consulting industry. 

Mr Liu outlined the “3-5-10 strategy” for future development and the concept of “HEJUN dream”. The “3-5-10 strategy” comprises:  1) Growing the workforce to 2000 in 3 years (2013-2015); 2) Operating an O2O (on-line to off-line) platform, building the “Three Dimension” community and achieving product/service/organization innovation and internationalization in 5 years (2016-2020);  3) Realizing the “HEJUN dream” vision, becoming a talent cultivation organization, establishing the HEJUN school of thoughts, and building HEJUN town in 10 years (2021-2030).

Mega Trends, Challenges and Opportunities in China

Chairman Mr Wang Mingfu outlined the three mega trends impacting China’s next 10 years:  comprehensive deepening of reform and marketization, impact of new wave of technologies, and social reconstruction. Challenges and opportunities coexist, as do hardships and hopes. In 2014, the excess production capacity, the on-going transformation and the financial strain would mean a hard time for companies and the stock market.  He suggested companies to be focusing on cash flow for business operation, and buying and investing in cheap assets.   

Deputy CEO Mr Wang Feng crystallized his views on the Mega Trends of China in 2014.  2014 is a moment of crisis, but will be a pity to miss the opportunities because wealth is often pursued in the midst of risks.  He summarized his views in three key phrases:  irrational prosperity, fragmentation of modernization and community coexistence.

· Irrational Prosperity: that 2014 will probably be the watershed year for old economy and new economy. Enterprises should review the logic of growth.  Companies should think pessimistically but act optimistically.

· Fragmentation of Modernization:  that society noted the destruction of social tradition and spiritual life in the midst materialistic improvement through modernization.  The healing of physical and mental trauma is the key.   Companies need to satisfy spiritual need to create huge value. 

· Community Coexistence:  that the mobile internet was an industrial revolution propelling formation of communities.  These communities reshape many areas such as corporate management, brand shaping, product boundary, organization model and benefit distribution. Companies need to build urgently their own enterprise communities.

Insights on Selected Business Issues

Several other speakers shared their views on a wide range of strategic topics: Be a Light-bulb Like Enterprise (good enough to set as an example and to illuminate others); an O2O marketing case study; Angle investment; co-management led consulting; earth-shattering movement in “Big Healthcare”; O2O model for micro-enterprises; consulting in Carbon strategy; company valuation for a food manufacturing company;  minimalistic concept in strategic planning.  Borrowing the words from some HEJUN partners, the 2-day learning and sharing was indeed “a big spiritual banquet”

Awards Ceremony and Concluding Remarks

The grand finale was the Annual Awards Ceremony for Best Contributors in various areas such as revenue generation, corporate contribution, services, knowledge management etc.   Participants were delighted to hear the concluding remarks from Mr Wang Mingfu:  “In the HEJUN family, let us blossom together, warmer and brighter than the sun.  Pursuing dreams in the Year of the horse, fulfilling the dreams with HEJUN”.
